Many people read the Bible. Most like to stick pretty much with the New Testament. I used to do so myself. There was a time that I even believed the Old Testament was “unnecessary”. Was I ever wrong. The Bible is the most amazing Book. After more than 40 years, I am still captivated by it, and learn more about what is truly important every time I go through it. And what is truly important is wisdom; and what is the true fountainhead of wisdom is the Word of God when illuminated by the Spirit of God when read in humility. God gives grace to the humble. He resists the proud.
I outlined the Old Testament in my previous post. Let me put the outline for the New here. I’ll copy a part of the previous post first.
“Unlike any other book, read the Holy Bible knowing the end from the beginning and from the top down; having an outline of understanding before cracking its cover. The outline would revolve around 7 promises and prophecies given by God; fulfilled by God thru 12 time stages or phases. That guide would look like this:
A. God’s Goal and Purpose: Kingdom; the Holy City, New Jerusalem, Revelation chapters 21 and 22
B. God’s Plan and Program: Messiah, Genesis 1:1 thru Revelation 20:15; 7 prophecies in 12 time stages or phases”
The first 9 phases comprise the Old Testament history of God’s people Israel. The remaining three comprise the New Testament, they are:
10. Messiah and the Gospel Phase; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John thru Acts chapter 1
11. The Early Church Phase; Acts of the Apostles, including the epistles to the Galatians, Thessalonians, Corinthians, Romans, Colossians, Philemon, Ephesians, Philippians, Timothy and Titus
12. The General Epistle Phase; This includes the remaining epistles written by those other than Paul, and not addressed to specific local churches or individuals by name, these include those epistles by James, Jude, Peter and John, and the epistle to the Hebrews
God’s goal is Kingdom, seen in Revelation 21 and 22. God’s plan or program is Messiah, seen right from the beginning. It being December 31, 2013, would you like to read through the Book with me? I’m beginning tomorrow with the end first. God’s purpose, as seen in the last two chapters of the Holy Bible. It’s what the Book is all about!
