If I am the only one seeing, and “proving” this, it bears little weight. But, as others undertake to test my thesis, then truth gets to win out. I’ve said since 5/26, there are 10 Essential Elements to The Real New Testament Message. In all my sharing of this, I’ve yet to have one person to challenge it. I’m presuming I’ve got it right. So far, from Mark chapters 1 thru 8, I see it holding up, so let’s examine Mark chapters 9 and 10.
From chapter 9, we again have two specific instances where Jesus tells of the two elements of #5, the Gospel, that he will die for our sins and rise from the dead, in verses 9 thru 13, and 31. That important matter of #7, belief appears twice in verses 19, and 23 with 24; verse 19 being Jesus’ complaint of Israel’s unbelief. With the 33 thru 37 passage, we read of #10, the Kingdom, and of how that #9, New Life living in the deepest humility is what Jesus calls us to. 10:43 teaches the same. Mark 9:42 thru 48 is loaded! Jesus first mentions #7, believe; goes to #2, sin, and then #3, judgment, all in verse 42. Then follow carefully, as Jesus then speaks of personal physical maiming 3 times, in verses 43, 45 and 47. This is a picture of #6, repentance, in each instance. Jesus says that this #6, repentance is necessary to result in entering #10, the Kingdom, in verse 47, or the lack of repentance will certainly result in one being thrown in hell as their #3, judgment! It is here, however, in verse 48, that we have Jesus quoting the source of His hell belief and teaching. It is specifically derived from the very last verse of the prophet Isaiah, from 66:24 of his book!
Chapter 10 is full. Whereas verse 15 mentions #10, the Kingdom, we must suppose that by ‘receive,’ Jesus can only imply #6, repentance, #7, believe, and #8, the New Birth, as the longer passage in Matthew 18:2-4 explains. Speaking of which, Jesus teaches it upon the disciples question in v.26, with His answer of v.27. The #8, New Birth is of a divine nature and origin! Mark 10:17 thru 30, is like Mt. 19:16 thru 29. The #10, Kingdom is equated with eternal life v.17+30. #8, the New Birth, is when one gets saved v.26, and has everything to do with following #4, the Savior, Jesus Christ and #7, believing #5, the Gospel, as He explains in verse 29. We see the two elements of #5, the Gospel again, in verses 33 and 34, where Christ will die for our sins and rise from the dead. The Key Verse in Mark, is like that in Matthew 20:28… it is Mark 10:45. It points to Jesus as #4, the Savior, saying that He came “to give His life as a ransom for many.” Are you among those whom He ransomed? What are you waiting for?!?!?It’s what the Book is all about!
