Completing the 2nd Missionary Journey of Paul with Acts 17 thru 18:17, we look for more evidence of our thesis, which is everywhere! In chapter 17, we find #5, the Gospel about #4, the Savior in verse 3. The result of its proclamation is that some were persuaded, so they #7, believed and joined Paul. But, other Jews were jealous of Paul, and #2, sinned against him by raising up opposition to him beginning with verse 5. So, off to Berea, and verse 11, they found others who #7, believed #5, the Gospel message. Then, with verse 12, many #7, believed! But, when Paul was discovered preaching #5, the Gospel there, they were #2, sinned against once again by an agitated crowd in verse 13. So, Paul was sent away to Athens. There, he saw their #2, sin of idolatry, and began preaching #5, the Gospel about #4, the Savior to them, with a particular emphasis upon the 2nd element of #5, the Gospel; His resurrection from the dead! It hasn’t been common, but we find the command to #6, repent, expressly stated in verse 30, with the threat of #3, severe judgment upon all those who will not in verse 31! One more time, we find mention of the 2nd element of #5, the Gospel mention of Christ’s resurrection, also in verses 31 and 32, with the proper human response being that a few there #7, believed Paul’s message.
The 2nd missionary journey ends with chapter 18, verses 1 thru 17. We see with verses 4 and 5, Paul preaching that Jesus was the Christ, #4, the Savior. But they #2, sinned against him and became abusive. However, by verse 8 we find some #7, believed and, in keeping with starting out a #9, New Life in Christ, were baptized. Paul was further #2, sinned against by unbelieving Jews with verses 12 thru 17.
It would appear to be AD 51 by this time, and almost 20 years since Christ arose and ascended. Paul has completed his 2nd missionary journey, and has settled down into Corinth for a period of 18 months. While there, it is believed that he wrote his 2 letters to the church he founded in Thessalonica, and we are going to examine them next for The 10 Essential Elements of The Real New Testament Message of 1.) righteousness, 2.) sin, 3.) judgment, 4.) Savior, 5.) Gospel, 6.) repentance, 7.) believe, 8.) New Birth, 9.) New Life and 10.) Kingdom. This is the message of Evangelicalism, and we have the right message that brings eternal life. It’s what the Book is all about!
