Romans chapter 5, verses 3 thru 21, is just incredible! The theology of 1:16+17 is God’s #8, salvation results in a man being declared #1, righteous by Him when that person #7, believes the #5, Gospel of Jesus Christ. Period. 3:20 thru 5:2 makes the case, and here in Romans 5, he sets it in cement for one last time, to stand for all eternity. It goes like this:
First, note that there are several #9, New Life in Christ teachings with verses 2 thru 5, 11 and 17. Verses 2, 3 and 11 give us 3 reasons to rejoice! Verse 17 says we can ‘reign in life;’ that is, live victoriously over sin thru Jesus Christ! The chapter ends with verse 21, and our hope of eternal life to be realized in #10, the Kingdom to come, as did verse 2. But, the body of all of the rest of the remainder of chapter 5 swirls around the matters of #1 righteousness, #2 sin, #3 judgment, #4 the Savior and, #5 the Gospel, resulting in #8, the New Birth of God’s salvation! These are ubiquitous. They are everywhere! All I can do is catalogue them. Just by reading thru, looking for them, and seeing the relationship each of these has with all the others, you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free!
Find your #1, righteousness in verses 7, 9, 16 thru 19, and 21. Without it, yours is a record of #2, sin, as found in verses 6, 8, 10, and every verse, beginning with 12 right on thru 21! As you should expect, your record of sin will result in your #3, severe judgment, seen in verses 9, 12, 14 thru 18, and verse 21. But, we have a #4, Savior in Jesus Christ told us in verses 6 thru 11, 15, 17, 19 and 21. And, of course, it is by means of our Savior, you and I have the #5, Gospel, particularly as it pertains to the element of His death and shed Blood for us! See verses 6 thru 10, to see the all-importance and centrality of #5, the Gospel to our #8, salvation in that passage.
And that is the point; that one last point, that we have left here. We must have #1, righteousness, but, beginning with the very first man, Adam, we have a corrupted and sinful human nature, resulting in our own miserable performance, so that, we, too, are also #2, sinners says verses 12 thru 19. There only exists for us the certainty of #3, severe judgment, but God sent for us #4, a Savior, in the Person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Thru Him, we have #5, the Gospel, that He died for our sins and rose from the dead. God has done everything that He could do for our #8, New Birth of salvation… everything!
What should #8, God’s salvation of New Birth mean for you and for me? We find the answer with chapter 6; a #9, brand new life in Christ! Those whom the Spirit of God has convicted over their sins in this life; upon learning of all that God has already done for them, thru the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, may now live an entirely new life thru Christ, as we are just about to see… in the next chapter of Romans. This is the REAL message of the New Testament! It’s what the Book is all about!
