With Romans 7, we have 2 particular teachings. The first in verses 1 thru 6, and the other in verses 7 thru 25. Get this! In 7:1-6, Paul is concluding that which we saw in chapter 6, by likening the matter of our dying in Christ unto sin, to marriage under the Law. The entire passage is a #9, New Life teaching, because he concludes by saying ‘we serve in the new way of the Spirit,’ (also stated in 8:4). Paul tells us this became possible when we experienced the #8, New Birth in words found in verses 4 and 6. This conversion became possible by #4, the Savior and the #5, Gospel element of His resurrection in verse 4. His point is, as if married, when we died in Christ and were raised up with Christ, we were then dead to the Law, in that it had been fully satisfied, since its penalty of death had been carried out in our lives already. The Law killed us in Christ on the Cross!
Verses 1 thru 6 connects to 7 thru 25 with the twin mention of our #2, sin and sure #3, judgment, as that is what we find first in verse 5, and then all over verses 7 thru 23. Sin finds near countless mention in this passage. Judgment is frequently mentioned with sin in verses 9 thru 13 as death. Sin’s opposite, #1, righteousness can be seen throughout verses 12 thru 22 and 25. And what is the clear separation and divider between those two to keep us from judgment? Clearly, it is that which we find in verses 24 and 25; #4, the Savior, Jesus Christ! Friends, we ‘died to the Law thru #4, the body of Christ, that we might #8, belong to Him who was #5, raised from the dead, that we might #9, bear fruit to God’ as ‘we serve in #9, the new way of the Spirit,’ as derived from verses 4 and 6. What a Savior!!! Chapter 8 only gets better!
From Romans 8, Paul is clearly headed for a conclusion, as we get to a lot of mention of the believer’s glorious end in #10, the Kingdom, and 8:1 begins with ‘Therefore;’ a concluding word. Note this finality…There is no #3, condemnation for those who are in (#8, the New Birth of salvation), #4, Christ Jesus. This is now all about what we, who experienced #8, the New Birth, when we #7, believed on #4, the Savior and #5, the Gospel; from our #2, sin and its #3, judgment, when we were #1, declared righteous, are now to experience in our #9, New Life, and our promised acceptance and entrance into #10, the Kingdom! Follow Romans 8 carefully, as it transitions from #2, sin and #3, judgment, with verses 1 thru 13, and moves into #9, the New Life and #10, the Kingdom with verses 4 thru 17 and following. The difference expressed between these 2 opposite matters is clearly #4, the Savior and #5, Gospel in verse 3. God did it all for us, and He did it thru Jesus Christ! This, however, will mean nothing for us, unless we, each one individually, experience #8, the New Birth, as it is found in verses 1, 9 and 10. Salvation IS being in Christ, and possessing the Spirit of Christ. The Spirit is the means of our living a #9, New Life in Christ! It’s what the Book is all about!
