The previous 21 posts, beginning on 11/18/15, covered the 24 chapters of Luke’s Gospel account. What makes this different, is we went with the concept that there is 1 God, 1 New Testament, and 1 Message, but that the Message is, itself, 10 separate, distinct, and essential constituent parts! By going 1 step deeper than before, we get to its heart with ease. We know Luke!
For instance, the end point of The Gospel According to Luke is to get people into ‘the kingdom of God’. Luke uses the expression frequently, and is the 10th of The Essential Elements of The Real New Testament Message. The #10, Kingdom is the very thing that Jesus preached, says 4:43. That the 1st Essential Element is righteousness, is seen as early as 1:6+17, 75, 2:25, 5:32 and 14:14. We see it again when a rich young ruler came up to Jesus in 18:18. So, in order to gain entrance into the Kingdom, one must be #1, righteous. You must be perfect! Luke makes clear that our problem is that we have #2, sin, not righteousness! We find this as early as 1:17, and is at issue in 3:3, 5:20, 24 and 32, for several other examples. Because we are sinners, we need to be aware of the very real threat of certain and severe #3, judgment to come. Jesus threatens sinners with the pains of hell! Luke 12:5 is about it. Hell is real. Hell is hot. 13:28 says it is a place of eternal punishment, where ‘there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth’! All the lost will ultimately find themselves there! You do not want to end up in hell!
But, there is hope! God sent His Son, Jesus, to be#4, the Savior. He came ‘to seek and to save what was lost,’ says Luke’s key purpose verse, 19:10. He said in 22:20, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you’. The Savior gives us #5, the Gospel. It’s just 10 words. Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead! These 2 matters are entirely what the final two chapters, 23 and 24, of His Passion are all about. They are about how that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, shedding His Blood as the sole payment price for all our sins; but rose again on the 3rd day unto everlasting life! He is alive! He is the Savior… it’s what the Book is all about!
There are yet 5 more Essential Elements of The Real New Testament Message… next.
