From John 10, he passes over a great deal of what is found in the first 3 Gospels, and goes to the time of Jesus’ upcoming Passion, skipping some 15 months of time and activity the other 3 recorded. Luke especially had much unique material here, beginning at 9:51 thru 18:30 of his Gospel account. In John 11, Jesus will raise his dear friend Lazarus from the dead. Jesus said He would raise His own back in 6:40, and that He would even raise Himself in 10:17+18. Now, here, He proves that He possesses such authority and power. He has raised at least 2 others already; a widow’s son and Jairus’ daughter. The entire chapter really is to set-up for His upcoming Passion, which will commence next.
John 11 is about Jesus being the very Resurrection and the Life of all them that will be His, as the very heart and key of the chapter is found in verses 25 and 26. Leading up to that, we read of Lazarus’ sister, Mary, who has been said to be the sinful woman of Luke 7, but is actually the woman we will see in John 12:3. They are two different women, and should not be confused. The chapter is, as everything before it, to elicit #7, belief in Jesus for the purpose of one’s eternal salvation, so they might partake of eternal life! It’s all right here! Jesus is #4, the Savior, just as we are told with verse 27. The Savior would die for #2, the sins of man, as is told us in verses 49 thru 53; giving us #5, the Gospel. This Gospel of Jesus Christ must be received by #7, faith on the part of any who is willing, as we find with verses 15, 25, 26, 27, 40, 42, 45, and 48. You cannot miss that! And, the end result for any person is that their sins will be forgiven, and they will be saved. Having received #8, the New Birth, they will partake in the resurrection of the faithful dead to rise unto eternal life in the everlasting #10, Kingdom of God! We find this so succinctly stated with verses 23 thru 27. It’s what the Book is all about!
John ends chapter 11 with verses 55 thru 57, by telling us that the time of Jesus’ returning to Jerusalem one last time, to enter into His Passion and His Glory is now about to commence! And, that really IS what the Book is all about!!!
