Read 26.) Exodus 13:17 thru 15:21. This is the account of the greatest single miracle in all of the Hebrew Bible; when God parted the Red Sea as Israel fled the pursuing Egyptian army with Pharaoh at its head. Did this ever really happen? Chapter 13, verses 17 thru 22, tells us some details of how that God led Israel by way of the wilderness toward the sea, rather than the established road that would have taken them directly to Canaan. As Joseph expressed faith in God’s promise of land in Genesis 50:22-26, so, now, Joseph’s embalmed body is carried out with them, some 359 years since he died in Egypt. God gave Israel a manifest token of His presence and nearness, leading them out with a shading cloud over them by day, and as a pillar of fire by night.
Chapter 14, then, is that account of The Parting of the Red Sea, and of the destruction of Pharaoh’s army. Three more times, we read of God hardening Pharaoh’s heart, for His own purpose of demonstrating His glory. With verse 19, we have a 9th mention of this mysterious ‘angel of the Lord’. Being first mentioned in Genesis 17:7, He’s been a part of the Bible story action since about 2081 BC, some 635 years! Verses 21 and 22 are supernatural. Many think no such thing as this ever happened; that it is all just myth and legend. The chapter closes with mention of God’s purpose having been served. Then chapter 15 is Israel’s commemoration of the event, with a song ascribing all the glory of their deliverance from Egypt unto the Lord.
What must be established is the matter of the absolute factuality of the record, as the world has largely dismissed the entire matter altogether. I would refer you to the amateur archeological research efforts of the late Ron Wyatt. There are many detractors of his work, but he published much photo-documentation of his efforts, and I have yet to read of anyone who actually has disproven his research, but there appear to be many who say it is false, without having done the work to prove them to be so. Having found a land bridge under a portion of the Gulf of Aqaba, and commemorative columns originally erected in Solomon’s time, as well as preserved remnants of Egyptian chariot cabs and wheels, and horse and human remains; a second effort, later, by others, confirmed and vindicated Wyatt’s Red Sea crossing research in 2003, with even more photo and video proof. There are good videos on YouTube. Just search for ‘Red Sea Crossing’ and judge for yourself. I, for one, believing the Bible to be true, do not doubt the character of the researchers, nor the photo-record of their work, and believe their discoveries real, and perfectly in keeping with the written record of the Word of God. I think you will be amazed. It’s what the Book is all about!
