What is it that man cannot do? Man cannot foretell the future. See Isa.44:25+26, 41:23 and 45:21. Many have claimed to do so, but we can’t. If there is a God who is all-knowing, He could though. And, what if, to prove His existence, He predicted and even caused, a bunch of things to result in more than 2,000 years of one nation’s entire course of history? I’m not talking about little bits and pieces… I’m talking about the entire course!
Beginning with Genesis 12:1, and reading through all the rest of the Hebrew Bible, or Christian Old Testament, in a strictly arranged chronological order, we have the record of a historical narrative of the history of ancient Israel, from its origin; and then, through the time of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. That would be from about 2,092 BC to about AD 33. This is the record of the fulfillment of 7 specific Promises and Prophecies through the course of 9 distinct Time Stages or Phases.
God gave Abraham, Isaac and Jacob 4 of those Promises and Prophecies. He told them of 1.) the Promised Land, 2.) many descendants, 3.) their captivity and deliverance, and of 4.) Messiah. Through Moses and Joshua, God gave 3 more. 5.) Israel’s unfaithfulness, resulting in 6.) their dispersion, and 7.) their restoration back into the land. There was the prophecy in Amos of the period of heavenly silence, which lasted about 420 years, and then, with the coming of John the Baptist to Israel, there came Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
The historical time stages or phases work out like this: 1.) The Patriarchal Stage, Genesis 12:1 thru Exodus 1:7. 2.) The Exodus Phase, Exodus 1:8 thru Joshua 5:12. 3.) The Conquest Stage, Joshua 5:13 thru Judges 2:9. 4.) the Judges Phase, Judges 2:10 thru I Samuel 12:25. 5.) The United Kingdom Stage of Saul, David and Solomon, I Samuel 8:1 thru I Kings 12:15 and II Chronicles 10:15. 6.) The Divided Kingdom Phase, I Kings 12:16 and II Chronicles 10:16 through II Kings 24:1 and II Chronicles 36:6+7. Then, the 7.) Expulsion Stage, or The Diaspora, beginning 605 BC, and with II Kings 24 and II Chronicles 36 thru verse 21, along with Jeremiah 25. This ends with the Jews returning back to Judah and Jerusalem to rebuild the walls and temple, and 8.) the Restoration Phase. They were given permission to do so with the decree of Cyrus in 539 BC, as we see in II Chronicles 36:22f, and Ezra 1:1. This period ends with the prophet Malachi, and commences a 420 yr. period of silence, prophesied by Amos, in 8:11+12. The 9th time stage or phase is Messiah, that commences with the Four Gospel accounts. What makes it all supernatural, even divine, is the co-ordination of fulfillment of the Promises and Prophecies with the transition between each Time Stage or Phase! It’s what the Book is all about!
